Beautiful design comes in many forms. Experiential design is one of my favorites, and sitting at a stunning table set with fine china creates a special environment for everyone to feel and enjoy. So with that, I say let’s make fine china relevant again!
There is something very special about a striking dinner table set with lovely flowers and fine china. Even in my small city pad in San Francisco, I enjoy hosting dinner parties for family and friends. They are often casual get-togethers, but every once in awhile I love to actually use the “good china”. It feels so special, and grown-up.
For this particular tablescape I choose roses in full bloom in two shades of apricot and orange that march in a line in matching clear “fishbowl” vases. I juxtaposed the elegance of my parent’s Tiffany silver with an imperfect mix of textural olive suede napkins, and white napkins to ensure it wasn’t all too precious. The final, and most important statement was my coveted set of Christofle china, in the updated classic design called Ruban Or (unfortunately it has been discontinued) that works with so many varied colors and styles.
Fortunately, I have found other striking, yet timeless patterns from Wedgewood, Lenox and Vera Wang (for Waterford), that will stand the test of time and bring years of pleasure for all of your formal entertaining needs - enjoy!
